Many people have a skewed outlook on their own lives. In some cases, they’re a bit too happy with it, imagining it to be better than it really is, which is a façade that can only last so long before it comes crashing down.
On the other hand, there are those that think their lives are utterly miserable, when really things could be so much worse than they are. In both cases, this misunderstanding can get in the way of you properly balancing out your life.
Being a bit too hopeful about the state of your life is typically the route that can cause more problems. When you think that everything’s fine, and you keep convincing yourself of that idea, no problems get solved.
For example, if you were spending too much time at work and not enough time with your kids at home, you might try to excuse it by convincing yourself that it’s necessary or that at least you’re earning money for them.
In reality, you might be really upset not being able to see them more often, and could realistically spend a little less time on your job. By being able to look past the lie that everything’s okay, you can solve your problem.
This same concept naturally applies to being too harsh on your life, as well. While it’s more commonly an attitude found in teenagers, many adults still carry this outlook well on into their senior years.
If you believe that everything in your life is negative and it all needs to be turned upside down, when really it just needs a few minor adjustments, you’ll end up going way overboard on lifestyle changes.
When this happens, you’ll realize that you’ve put yourself in a much worse position by changing too much too quickly, and that your previous situation really wasn’t as bad as you thought it was. Then you’ll really be upset with your schedule and lifestyle.
By being objective and honest with yourself, you’ll be able to get a clear outlook on what your life looks like, as well as what you’d like it to look like. This clarity is what will eventually guide you to a well-balanced life.
Knowing exactly what needs to be changed is crucial to changing your work-life balance, but you can’t get a good idea of what needs to be changed if your perspective is so out of focus.
