When you fast, it changes your body’s hormone activity. This can sometimes cause people on the Snake Diet to struggle with insomnia. But it’s something that you can easily overcome.
Start by not forcing yourself to go to sleep. This is only going to frustrate you and stress you out. Instead, figure out what’s causing the problem and address it. You don’t want to just let it go because losing sleep can negatively affect weight loss.
One problem that might be causing insomnia is that fasting switches your body’s energy draw from carbohydrates to fat. This switch can cause insomnia. It can also temporarily cause irritability and an inability to focus.
This is normal, especially in the beginning, but it will pass if you just stick with the diet.
Another problem that can be causing insomnia has to do with the how your body is responding to the difference in your calorie intake and the nutrients you’re consuming.
When you eat differently, your body doesn’t metabolize the foods the same way. This can make it harder for you to fall asleep at night and stay asleep. As you start fasting and eating better, your body no longer has that same sluggishness.
You’ll notice that you’re just not ready to drop into bed every day. That’s because fasting gives some people more energy than before. So when it’s time for bed, instead of feeling tired and ready to go to sleep, you feel energized.
If you experience this, you might discover that you wake up before you’re scheduled to, but you still don’t feel tired. Sometimes, when you’re fasting on the Snake Diet, it affects your hormones, especially cortisol – which is your stress hormone.
When your cortisol level is raised, it causes insomnia. Something else that can cause insomnia on the Snake Diet is dehydration. This can interfere with your melatonin and you get something known as dehydration insomnia.
This can happen on the Snake Diet when users aren’t drinking the amount of Snake Juice that they should drink to meet their hydration needs. When you don’t follow the guidelines for this, it can lead to an electrolyte imbalance and when these are out of line, it can be difficult to get and stay asleep.
On the other hand, too much of the Snake Juice can lead to middle of the night trips to the bathroom so you need to find the right balance for your body in order to prevent this and get the sleep you need.
When it’s time to refeed, if you’re eating your meal too close to bedtime, this can cause insomnia – especially if you’re coming off a longer fasting period. If you’ve had a problem with sleeplessness, just realize that as soon as your body adjusts to the diet and you iron out any issues that could be causing it, the problem will go away.
