Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics > 5 Part Affiliate Marketing Primer
1. Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics – Overview
Welcome to your first lesson in the Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics Crash Course.
Over the next few days, you will receive several lessons that will help you learn the ins and outs of affiliate marketing.
First we need to know about the benefits of affiliate marketing and how you can use it to make a little extra income or even a full time living. Affiliate marketing allows you to earn a commission by promoting the products and services of others. It is usually a very simple process that anyone can do once they understand the basics.
It works on a referral basis, where you (the affiliate) send consumers to the seller’s product pages through your own unique affiliate ID and link. If that consumer makes a purchase, you will get a percentage of the sale. Of course, there is a bit more to it than that going on behind the scenes like cookies and tracking, but for the most part that is how it works.
Tip: Most affiliate programs will provide you with tutorials on how to create and set up your affiliate links. This training should include how to place them on your website, blog or in an email. If you need more help with this, please feel free to contact me.
One of the biggest advantages of affiliate marketing is that you don’t have to put in the time and effort of creating a product to sell. You can start promoting as an affiliate as soon as you sign up and are approved by the seller. You will also need a plan for promotion, which we will be talking more about later in your lessons.
There are many ways and places to find products to promote and the commission you earn will be determined by the product seller, so it’s important that you understand their terms before you invest your time, effort and money marketing for them.
Many sellers offer their own affiliate programs directly from their websites while others work through big networks like:
JVzoo
http://www.jvzoo.com
ClickBank
ShareSale
https://www.shareasale.com
Commission Junction
http://www.cj.com
You can also promote products from mega companies like Amazon:
https://affiliate-program.amazon.com
These affiliate networks are very popular and offer many diverse products, which allows you to choose what type of products you want to focus on. They also offer a different payment structures so make sure fully understand how you will be paid.
For instance on JVzoo you can earn anywhere from 10-100% of the sale. The average is 50% per sale. Sometimes the seller (vendor) will pay you instantly and other times you have to wait because they can set their own terms. Your payments are directly deposited into your PayPal account.
Side note: If you don’t have a PayPal account you should definitely get one because many affiliate programs have the option for pay out through them which will give you faster access to your profits. It’s free, easy and very handy.
Here is the info and sign up link:
https://www.paypal.com/us/signup/account
On bigger networks like ClickBank and Amazon, you are paid according to their thresholds and schedules. This means that you have to make a certain amount before you get your check or deposit.
Be aware:
On big networks like Amazon, your commission is usually starts out much lower and increase with volume of sales, which means you have to sell a lot more before you start seeing big commission checks.
With individual websites the product owner determines the commission structure and payment schedule so again make sure you understand their terms, that they are reputable and don’t be afraid to ask them questions before you begin promoting for them.
Whether you choose to promote products from an affiliate network or an individual website is completely up to you. The networks do offer a certain amount of protection as far as payment is concerned. However, many privately owned websites offer generous benefits to affiliates. A mix of different networks and websites is a good idea because it brings in different revenue streams for your business.
2. Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics – Tactics to get Started
Did you know that you have the potential to earn thousands of dollars each month when you apply yourself and learn the ins and outs of affiliate marketing?
It may seem like a pipe dream to you right now, but I know real live people who are doing just that and they started just like you by learning the basics and growing their business.
Now, it doesn’t happen overnight like so much of the hype you hear online. To build a profitable affiliate business you will have to invest your time, efforts and even some money depending on your promotion strategies. You will have successes and failures along the way and they will teach you what works and what doesn’t.
The most important thing I want you to remember is not to get discouraged if you don’t start seeing profits right away. When I first started marketing affiliate products, someone told me to think of it like planting seeds in a garden. You have to tend it consistently in order to help it grow. So, every link you share and promotion you run is one step closer to success. Just remember your determination and hard work will pay off.
When you are first getting started, you should focus on a specific niche or topic and promote affiliate programs that are related to that market. For instance, you could focus on pet related products, self-help books or moneymaking topics. It’s not a good idea to sign up for a wide range of programs on different topics because you won’t be able to focus your efforts on targeted promotions. So start with a single market, and promote products that appeal to it. Once it starts making money you can branch out to other niches if you want too.
Always do your research and select the best affiliate programs for your niche. You want to choose programs that are rewarding, reliable and have a good reputation for paying on time.
Look for sellers who offer high quality, well-priced products as well as promo tools and swipe files that you can use to promote their products. This will make is easier for you to sell their products or programs.
Another good tip is to look for affiliate programs that offer recurring commissions to their products with nice monthly payouts. As I mentioned in your last lesson, 50% is good. These types of products can lead to nice amounts of passive income that can continue even after your initial promotion because you’ll earn a commission from the initial sale and regular payments for as long as that customer remains active. Membership sites are an excellent place to start if you want to earn recurring commissions.
– Create a promotional strategy for your business.
For example, many affiliate marketers build a website or blog focused on their chosen niche, and use it to publish high quality content, reviews and recommendations that are related to the products they are planning to promote.
If you decide to go this route all of the content you publish should be focused on the affiliate programs or products you recommend and getting your visitors to click on your affiliate links. This is called content marketing and it is an excellent way to establish a solid foundation for your business.
If you want to get some good ideas of how this works just do a search online for any product along with the word review and you will return lists of sites that are run by affiliates. Here is an example, do a search for P90x. As I’m writing there are currently more than ten pages of results in Google alone and most of them are affiliate run sites.
If you have a niche in mind for your business, start doing some research on this method and think about how you can incorporate a website into your promotional strategy.
3. Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics – Choosing Affiliate Program and Targeting
Setting up a website or blog is a great asset for your business and if you decide that it is a good option for your business, you will have to learn a few things like how to set it up and how drive traffic to it. Which isn’t something we are going to have time to cover in this short course however you should definitely do some research on the topic.
Another thing you will want to do is build a list of contacts (email) so that you can grow your business. There is no better way to generate income on demand. With that said, this isn’t a must for promoting affiliate programs but it will make your job easier. Once you have a list of subscribers, who are interested in the types of products you plan to promote you will be able to send them information, updates and offers.
As we discussed in your last lesson it is very important to do your research when it comes to choosing an affiliate program to promote. The same can be said for researching your target audience. You need to know as much about them as you can. What are their interests, where they hang out, do they have money to spend and what types of products they spend it on?
For instance, if you are promoting cosmetics, you need to know how they research, what websites do they visit? Do they hang out on FaceBook or Twitter? Do they do most of their shopping in stores or online? Knowing these things will help you create a solid plan for promotion and the better your conversions from visitor to customer will be.
Yet, another good reason to get to know your target audience is because once you figure out where they are it will make it much easier for you to get their attention. For example if you find out which social media sites they use the most you can set up an account and use it as a vehicle for your promotions. If you aren’t quite sure how to collect this type of information there are plenty of websites that offer consumer data.
One of the most important things to remember about affiliate marketing is to play to the strengths of your audience. You should think about what they want and why they buy that way you can create campaigns that are relevant to their interests and they will be more likely to click on your ads and links.
4. Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics – Product Promotion
Successful affiliate marketers know this is a great way to attract visitors who are interested in what you are selling. It is also a great way to establish yourself as someone that can be trusted and statics show that people are far more likely to make a purchase from someone they know like and trust.
However, it is important to be careful in using this approach. If you start promoting every product that, hit the market or worse yet products that aren’t any good your credibility will suffer. You should always be honest when writing your recommendations as well. People often mistrust content that sounds exaggerated or untruthful.
Do not be afraid to mention things that you don’t like about the product or service your writing about because it make your recommendation more realistic and it can also help
increase your credibility.
If your visitors are interested in what you are offering, they will be more than happy to learn what is good about the product, what is not so good, and how the product will benefit them.
Always try to show proof that what you are promoting works as promised. If you take the time back up your claims with facts and data, visitors will gladly click your links and make a purchase. Posting testimonials and endorsements is a good idea too. Many times, you can find these on the seller’s website. Just make sure you ask permission before you use them. You can also poll the people who have already purchased a through your link to see how they like it.
Avoid hype at all costs. It is better to sound low key and confident when you are promoting affiliate programs. Always do your best to sound professional and your visitors and customers will be more responsive to what you have to offer.
It is a good idea to recommend products that you have tried or at the very least from sellers you trust. Whenever possible test the product before you begin to ensure that, the people you are referring it to won’t be left high and dry after they purchase. Some sellers will make review copies of their products available to established affiliates so don’t be afraid to ask.
5. Affiliate Marketing Beginners Basics – Affiliate Tips
It is a proven fact that most people don’t make a purchase on the first time they visit your website or read and ad you post. In fact, it can take several exposures to an offer to get them to take action.
That is way it is extremely important to do everything within your power to collect contact information from your website visitors, social media followers and customers who purchase through your links.
As I mentioned in your third lesson when you have a list of contacts you can email them with updates and offers that will appeal to them. When it comes to colleting email addresses there are many methods you can use. It is also a good idea to use an email service with an autoresponder so that you can automate the follow up process and make your job easier.
A great way to entice people to join your list is to offer them a free gift like a report, ebook or even a short course like this one. You can also publish a newsletter, which will give you a great reason to stay in touch with your subscribers on a regular basis.
One of the biggest benefits of building your list is that it gives you the opportunity to
develop a relationship based on trust with your subscribers, which goes back to the know like trust aspect of marketing online that we discussed in the last lesson. If people recognize you as someone who is honest and trustworthy they are more likely to purchase through your link.
This strategy is a delicate balance between providing useful information with a sales pitch. If you continue to write informative emails and publish helpful reviews you will be able to build a sense of reciprocity in your readers that often leads to making more sales.
Before we close this last lesson, there are a couple more things you need to know to help ensure your success. They are the importance of cloaking your affiliate links and tracking your campaigns.
Link cloaking or masking is a process that replaces your long affiliate URL with one that is shorter There are many reasons why you should cloak your links like it looks better, is easier to work with and most of all it disguises your affiliate ID and protects it from being hijacked by other (unscrupulous) affiliates.
There are several ways the you can do this. My preference it to use a WordPress plugin called PrettyLink because it makes it possible to shrink, cloak, track, organize, share and test all of your links so they look like they are coming from your own domain, which adds to your credibility.
There are also a wide variety of free link cloaker’s like TinyURL and GhostURL as well as fancy paid ones. They are very easy to use and they can make a big difference in your campaigns
Lastly, it is very important to track the progress of your campaigns so that you know
what is producing results and what isn’t. This way you won’t waste your time and money promoting programs that don’t convert. Again, there are many ways to do this from using a simple plugin like PrettyLink to track clicks to setting up a (free) Google Analytics account where you can monitor the activity of your campaigns.
Many affiliate programs and networks like JVzoo, ClickBank and Amazon have built in software that will track your clicks, campaigns, conversions and sales, but is a good idea to have an outside tracker as well because even though they are reputable it doesn’t mean they are infallible. When it comes to maximizing commissions, it’s always better to be sure than sorry!

Mountain Biking for Beginners > 12 Part Biking Primer
1. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Overview
Mountain biking is a great way to explore the outdoors, stay in shape, or just have fun. Racing down the side of a mountain is exhilarating; however, it can also be quite dangerous if you don’t know what you’re doing. Therefore, in today’s issue we are going to go over some of the basics every mountain biker should know that way you can hit the trails with confidence.
Since the 1970s, when Mountain Biking first became popular many aspects of the sport have changed and advanced as people discover new styles of riding their Mountain Bikes. Now, there are literally hundreds of different brands of gear on the market. You can go to almost any sports store and find all kinds of equipment that caters to the needs of enthusiasts. This evolution has made it possible for mountain bikers everywhere to discover and to enjoy the sport.
Mountain biking is often categorized into three different styles downhill, free riding, and cross-country. Even though the different styles are similar in some ways, they require different skills and equipment. The style that you pick will determine the type of bike you get.
When it comes to buying a mountain bike the one you choose is more of a personal preference, and
the biggest determining factor is the type of riding you will be doing. As I’m sure you’re aware bikes come in all styles, shapes, and prices, which can make selecting one a bit of a challenge.
A good place to start is the internet. Do your research, some price comparisons and before you buy a bike, always ask to try it first. A great mountain biker will become one with his or her own bike. When shopping, make sure you check for comfort, fit and how it’s geared. Also, consider the locations where you plan to ride. If it’s local that will help narrow down you choices, but if you plan to travel to different places then it may take you a while to find just the right one.
Now let’s go over a few of the different styles that you can explore:
– Cross country
This type of mountain biking involves riding your bike up and down hills. Although it’s the least
extreme form of mountain biking, most cross country riders are very fit and go on long rides.
– Cyclo cross
This is a cross between road and mountain biking. These riders have to go over obstacles, cross through
rivers, and race on and off the course.
– Dirt jumping
Dirt jumping involves jumping the bike over large man made dirt jumps then doing tricks while they
are in the air. These jumps are normally close together so riders can go over six or more jumps
in one run, gaining a flow to give them more speed for bigger jumps.
– Downhill
Downhill mountain biking involves racing downhill as fast as possible. This type of riding is very
intense and extreme, offering riders the chance for ultimate thrills and excitement.
– Free-ride
Free riding involves finding the perfect line down the mountain using all of the terrain to express
yourself. These competitions are very popular, because riders can showcase themselves and their talents.
– Single speed
No to be confused with fixed gears, this is a form of cross country biking that’s done using a bike
with only one gear and fewer components. The idea with single speed is simplicity. The straight
chain line will provide efficient pedaling, and the lack of components mean less mechanical
problems and a lighter bike.
– Street and urban
While this type of riding doesn’t take place in the mountains it does require the same skills and endurance. It involves riding in urban areas, ledges, and other types of manmade obstacles.
Riders of street and urban biking will do tricks as well, such as stalls and grinds.
– Trail riding
Trials are considered an aspect of mountain biking, although the bikes used look nothing like mountain
bikes. They use 20 or 26-inch wheels and sport small, low frames. Trail riders will hop and jump their bikes over obstacles, which requires an extreme amount of balance and concentration.
Like all other sports, it takes time and practice to master the basic skills. Endurance and stamina is necessary when it comes to mountain biking, so if you have been sedentary for a while don’t just jump on your bike and try to conquer the toughest trail in town. It’s a good idea to build up your endurance by doing some laps around your neighborhood or putting in some time on a stationary bike.
2. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Buying Your Bike
It can be a bit frustrating as well as time consuming when you shop for a mountain bike. They aren’t exactly inexpensive and there is a lot to consider before you shell out a big bundle of cash on the mountain bike of your dreams.
One of the best places to start is determining what you want and can afford to spend. There is really no limit as to how much money you can invest on a new mountain bike. To help you keep your spending under control, you should figure out what your price range is before you hit the store that way you will end up with a good bike and no buyer’s remorse.
While it may be tempting, it isn’t always a good idea to buy from big department store like Wal-Mart. Their prices may be lower but unless you really know the brand of bike you’re buying the quality may be lacking. Instead, check out your local bike shop first. Often you will get a better bike and much better service. A good bike will last you a long time so choose wisely.
Mountain bikes come in many shapes and sizes. They are built to suit different riding styles and terrain types. To pick the right bike for your needs you’ll need to figure out what type of riding you will be doing the most. Smooth riding, cross-country racing, mountain cruising, lift-accessed downhill etc.
You also want to make sure that the bike you choose fits your personal style and not that of the sale’s staff.
Do you want a full suspension bike or hard tail, is another question you should think about before you start shopping. If you can afford it, a full suspension mountain bike is always worth the purchase because they offer more comfort and better overall control. However, a hard tail, without rear suspension, is much lighter in weight, which means it will pedal more efficiently. So again, the bike you choose depends on the type of riding you’ll be doing.
When it comes to narrowing down your choices comparing mountain bikes component to component is nearly impossible because there are far too many combinations available. The best way to go about doing this is finding a few components that are the most important to you and making sure the rest or the minimums fall within your price range. You can start with the fork then look at the wheels and rear derailleur.
Keep an eye out for sales and consider buying off-season. During the year, the prices of mountain bikes can fluctuate quite a bit. Spring through summer are the main buying season. If you can wait until the right price pops up, normally in the fall and winter, you can often save a couple hundred dollars. Many bike shops will have clearance sales and offer discounts or accessories when you buy from them.
Finding a good bike dealer is more important than finding the best price. You should look for a dealer that cares more about selling you a great bike than selling you a high priced one. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and talk with other bikers to see who they recommend. A great dealer will have a clean repair shop, be knowledgeable, helpful and give you the impression that you can really trust them.
You should take a test ride on as several bikes within your price range and if you can. You’ll find that some bikes will feel right, while others won’t. The more bikes you can test drive, you better you’ll understand what works for you and what doesn’t.
Bike reviews are a great way to find out about the different types and brands of mountain bikes. You should always look at what other owners think about a bike before you make that final purchase.
It will give you a rider’s insight into the reliability and overall performance you can expect.
Before we close this issue let’s quickly go over the anatomy of a mountain bike:
Bottom bracket – This attaches the crankset to the body of a bike.
Brake cable – This is the cable that connects the brake lever to the brake mechanism.
Brake lever – The lever on the handlebar to activate the brakes. The left side is the front brake and the right side is the rear brake.
Chain – The circular set of links that transfer power from the chain ring to the cogs.
Chain ring – The toothed rings that attach to the crank to hold the chain.
Crank – The lever that extends from the bottom bracket to the pedal, transferring the power to the
chain rings.
Derailleur – The mechanism for moving the chain from one cog to another.
Down tube – The section of frame that extends downward from the stem to the bottom bracket.
Front shock – The shock absorber on the front fork.
Handlebar – The horizontal bar attached to the stem with handgrips on the end.
Headset – The mechanism in front of the frame that connects the front fork to the stem and handlebars.
Hub – The center part of the wheel that the spokes are attached to.
Idler pulley – The bottom pulley of the rear derailleur that provides spring tension to keep the chain tight.
Nipple – A threaded receptacle that holds the end of the spoke to the rim.
Pedal – The platform to pedal on; attaches to the crank.
Rear shock – The shock absorber for the rear tire on dual suspension type bikes.
Rim – The metal ring that holds the spokes on the inside and the tire to the outside.
Saddle – The seat.
Seat post – Offers support for the seat.
Skewer – The metal rod that goes through the hub, attaching the wheel to the dropouts of the frame.
Spindle – The free rotating axle that the crank arms attach to; also a part of the bottom bracket.
Spokes – The thick wires that join the hub to the rim.
Stem – A piece that attaches the handlebar to the steering tube.
Wheel hub – The center of the wheel where the spokes are attached.
3. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Operating Tips
Mountain biking is an exciting sport that can be enjoyed by anyone who knows how to ride a bike.
Compared to the average bike ride, it does present challenges and even some danger. It is very important that you master the basic skills before you hit the trails. You can practice these skills at a local park, school, bike path, or simply around your house. If you can, try to find a location with a steep hill.
First, get a feel for your pedals. Practice moving your foot away from the pedal, first while sitting on your bike with one foot on the ground. Next, move on to releasing and replacing your foot while pedaling around for a bit. If your pedals are clipless they will feel differently than ones with clips so you will want to spend some time getting used to them.
Next, practice sit and spin for position. Simply sit on your bike and pedal around. You should keep your arms slightly bent and be sure to adjust your seat height so your legs is 70 to 90 percent extended at the bottom of every stroke on the pedal. Keep your body relaxed, avoid any position where you have either your knees or elbows locked.
Now it is time to focus on shifting gears. It is important to get a feel for how your bike shifts. The
higher gears are harder to pedal and will go faster while the lower gears are easier to pedal and will help you ascend hills. As you get tackle steeper hills, keep in mind that its best to shift before you get to the hill rather than while you’re on your way up.
Also, spend a bit of time coasting while standing on your pedals, without actually sitting on the seat. Keep your arms bent and don’t lock your knees. Then, try experimenting with shifting your body towards the rear end of the bike.
You should get as comfortable as you can with pedaling while standing on your bike. Try lifting yourself off the seat while standing on the pedals, and then crank them around. You should try this in higher gears on flat ground then again in lower gears while on a hill.
Lastly, practice dropping down a curb. Try finding a curb where you can easily get to the upper portion of it. At a moderate speed, practice standing and coasting right off the curb from the upper level to the lower level. Try this at different speeds and curb heights until it becomes second nature.
Once you practice these techniques and get the hang of them, you’ll be able to hit the trails feeling
comfortable on your mountain bike. Even though it may take some getting used to, it will all become second nature before you know it.
4. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Bike Safety
There are many ways that you can improve your personal safety when you’re out mountain biking. Many riders will tell you that wearing a helmet is the most important step to staying safe. The second most important step is that you should always be in control of yourself and your bike.
By riding in control, you’ll not only prevent crashes, you will keep others safe on the trail as well. When riding out of control you lose the ability to adjust to the terrain as you ride over it. This can and usually does result in serious injury to yourself or others. That is why it extremely important to have the right gear and to keep the following tips in mind before you hit the trails.
Make sure that you wear a helmet and other necessary safety gear for the conditions that you plan to ride in. Never ride beyond your control. There is no shame in walking areas of the trail that you don’t feel comfortable riding on and you should never let anyone else tell you that there is. Always make sure you keep your speed at a level where you can quickly adjust to any obstacles or change in the trail.
Get to know the trail before you speed up your pace. You should never push the limits on trails that you
aren’t familiar with, instead take them at a slow speed until you are comfortable on them. Always slow down around blind corners. If you can’t see past a corner you should never take it fast, because you never know who or what is coming around from the other direction.
Start small then go big. Work your way up to stunts or obstacles. Practice in less difficult situations before you move up to the more challenging and sometimes-dangerous ones. Lastly, always play it smart
If you start to question what you’re doing, you probably shouldn’t be doing. When in doubt go with your instincts and stay away from stunts that could land you in the hospital.
5. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Bike Riding Accessories
When you first start out with mountain biking, it can be a bit overwhelming when you walk into a bike
store to buy your first mountain bike and see all of the available accessories you’ll need when you
first start riding.
There are several mountain biking accessories and related products that you can purchase but you don’t need them all. Even though the sales staff may try to sell you anything and everything they can, the real question for those on a budget isn’t what’s cool, but what accessories you need to make your rides more safe and enjoyable. By starting with the essential accessories, you’ll be just fine when you hit the trails.
– Bike helmet
The bike helmet is the most important mountain biking accessory that you can buy. No one should ever be on a bike (especially a mountain bike) without a helmet. Many people have experienced serious head injury, when it could have prevented simply by wearing a helmet. Don’t worry most mountain bike helmets are comfortable and stylish and everyone who rides on the trails wears one.
– Mountain bike gloves
No matter what season you ride in, your hands can take a beating. Beginners will normally keep a death
grip on the handle bars, which can be very brutal for their hands. When you crash, your hands will be the first thing to hit the ground – and everyone crashes at some point. Mountain bike gloves are a must have accessory, as they will take the beating for you.
– Mountain bike shorts
After the first few mountain bike rides you take, you’ll notice that your rear end will be quite uncomfortable. Even though your body will adjust, bike shorts are great to have, because they will help keep it at a bare minimum. You can get shorts that are very comfortable, making them a great addition to your mountain bike ride.
– Mountain bike shoes
Depending on the type of pedals you have and the type of riding you do, you’ll want to pick your mountain bike shoes accordingly. If your bike has clipless type pedals, you’ll want to get shoes to accept the special cleat for your pedals. Good mountain bike shoes are durable, comfortable, and also a stiff sole for better efficiency when pedaling. Also, you should make sure to get the right shoe for the terrain you’ll be riding in as well.
– Eye protection
If you get something in your eye, you can run off the trail in a matter of seconds. Sunglasses or clear-lensed glasses can help keep your eyes safe from debris, as well as protect them from the wind. When you buy your glasses, make sure they are non-breakable.
– Hydration system
Bringing a water bottle or hydration backpack with you is always a great idea. It’s very easy to get dehydrated when riding on rough terrain, so you should always bring water with you and drink it on the trail to ensure that your body stays properly hydrated at all times.
– Trail repair kit
It’s easy to get stuck in the woods or on the trail if you don’t bring the proper repair kit for your bike. To be on the safe side, bring a multi-tool designed for bike repair, tire levers, and a patch kit for fixing flat tires. So there you have it, the basic essentials that will help keep you safe and happy while you’re on the trail!
6. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Using Gear System
The gears in mountain bikes just keep getting more and more intricate. The bikes of today have as many
as 27 gear ratios. A mountain bike will use a combination of three different sized sprockets in front and nine in the back to produce gear ratios.
The idea behind all these gears is to allow the rider to crank the pedals at a constant pace no matter what kind of slope the biker is trying to conquer. You can understand this better by picturing a bike with
just a single gear. Each time you rotate the pedals one turn, the rear wheel would rotate one turn as well (1:1 gear ratio).
If the rear wheel is 26 inches in diameter, then with 1:1 gearing, one full twist on the pedals would result in the wheel covering 81.6 inches of ground. If you are pedaling at a speed of 50 RPM, this means that the bike can cover over 340 feet of ground per minute. This is only 3.8 MPH, which is the equivalence of walking speed. This is ideal for climbing a steep hill, although bad for ground or going downhill.
To go faster you’ll need a different ratio. To ride downhill at 25 MPH with a 50-RPM cadence at the pedals, you’ll need a 5.6:1 gear ratio. A bike with many gears will give you a large number of increments between a 1:1 gear ratio and a 6.5:1 gear ratio so that you can always pedal at 50 RPM, no matter how fast you are actually going.
On a normal 27-speed mountain bike, six of the gear ratios are so close to each other that you can’t notice any difference between them. With actual use, bike riders tend to choose a front sprocket suitable for the slope they are riding on and stick with it, although the front sprocket can be difficult to shift under heavy load. It’s much easier to shit between the gears on the rear.
If you are cranking up a hill, it’s best to choose the smallest sprocket on the front then shift between the nine gears available on the rear. The more speeds you have on the back sprocket, the bigger advantage you’ll have.
Overall, gears are very important to mountain bikes as they dictate your overall speed. Without gears, you wouldn’t be able to build speed nor would you be able to pound pedals. The gears will move the pedals and help you build up speed. There are all types of gears available in mountain bikes, all of which will help you build up a lot of momentum if you learn how use them the right way.
7. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Proper Tire Inflation
Riding your mountain bike with the appropriate amount of tire pressure can make a huge difference
in how much control you have over your bike. Setting your tire pressure too high will make for poor contact with the ground and make your bike less controllable. Setting your tire pressure too low will make your tires unpredictable and make them susceptible to pinch flats.
The appropriate amount of tire pressure in a mountain bike will vary between rider to rider and the way the tires are setup. The conditions of your trail and the type of terrain you’re riding will also greatly affect what tire pressure you should be using in your tires.
There is a trick here to finding out exactly what tire pressure will work best for you and your mountain bike during normal conditions. After doing this, you can learn to adjust your pressure for different trails and types of terrain as needed.
You should start by finding a reliable pressure gauge or a pump with a pressure gauge. Then, use this same gauge or pump anytime you are making adjustments. A gauge can be very inaccurate, so if you switch around it you can make things much more difficult.
You should start with a higher pressure of around 40-50 psi. If you have a tubeless system, you should
start lower, 30-40 psi. The more you weigh the higher pressure you should start with. Try this pressure for a while and get a feel for how the tires take corners and loose dirt.
Drop the pressure by 5 psi in each tire and get a feel for how this new setup rides and how it compares to your previous setting. You should notice some improvement in stability, and if you don’t, drop the pressure by another 5 psi.
You want to find the lowest pressure you can ride with without sacrificing pinch flat resistance. A pinch flat occurs when your tire rolls over an object and compresses to the point where the tire and the tube get pinched between the object and the rim on the wheel.
With tubeless tire systems, you can run much lower air pressure, as you don’t have to worry about getting pinch flats. If you start to dent your rims, burp air out along the bead, or feel the tire roll under the rim during hard cornering, you’ve taken the pressure much too low.
Once you’ve found a comfortable setting for your tire pressure, learn what your tire feels like when you
squeeze it with your hands. Once you know, what your tires feel like you will always be able to get the right air pressure – with any pump.
8. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Chain Repair
Once your mountain bike chain becomes damaged, you should immediately replace it with a new one. It is possible however, to repair a broken chain using a chain tool. For this very reason, most mountain
bikers travel with a chain tool.
Your chain has three basic components:
– The metal side plates
– The rollers between the side plates
– The rivets or pins that go through the rollers to hold the plates together.
These pins allow the rollers to turn freely as the chain moves around the cogs. If your chain happens to break, you’ll need to remove the broken link and replace it with a spare link. To do this, simply reattach the two ends of the broken chain and ride on a shorter chain until you can get it replaced.
To remove a broken link of chain, place it in the chain tool. Now, turn the tool counter clockwise until the rivet pin of the chain tool touches the chain rivet. Continue to turn the tool until the pin pushes out of the roller. Be very careful, as you want to stop turning when the pin is right at the edge of the roller, before it moves through the outer side plate.
Now, turn the tool in the other direction, and back it out of the roller. Set the tool to the side, then work the chain very gently from side to side and extract the inner side plates and roller.
Now is the time to re-route the chain through the bike. You may want to have a chain-retaining tool
or some to help you hold the chain in the right spot as you route and repair it.
Now that the broken link has been removed and you’ve re-routed the chain, you’re ready to insert a new link or simply connect the links that were beside the broken one. The process here is the
same – align the two ends so that the link with the inner side plates will fit inside the link with the pin and outer side plates. Now, use the chain tool to push the pin inward until it’s positioned evenly between the side plates.
The easiest way to learn how to do this or feel comfortable doing it is to have someone show you, then actually practice with a chain and a chain tool. You’ll have no trouble at all making a temporary repair in a mountain bike chain once you’ve seen it done by a professional and practiced it yourself a few times.
9. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Cross Country Biking
Cross-country mountain biking is the opportunity to see our beautiful country at its finest. Where free riders and downhill bikers use four wheel bikes and ski lifts to get them to their destination, cross-country bikers get to the top of the mountain by the ride. Though free riding is very popular, the life vein of the sport has always been cross-country biking.
Just as cross-country riders are a different breed, the bikes they ride are as well. The cross country
bike is completely different in many ways from other types of mountain riding bikes. The premise for
cross country riders is speed. Everything about their bikes revolve with the idea of making the bikes faster and faster.
Bikes used in cross country mountain biking can be fully rigid frame, hard tails, or even full suspension frames. Through the years, the cross over to full suspension has become very popular.
The weight difference between free ride bikes and cross-country bikes is considerable. You’ll be
extremely hard pressed to find a bike that weighs more than 24 pounds, and even that weight can be
heavy. Free ride bikes weigh close to 40 pounds, which makes the difference in weight pretty close.
If you’ve never tried cross country mountain biking, you’ll probably find it to be a break from the
ordinary. Even though this type of biking involves trails, it’s normally the type of terrain that beginners wouldn’t want to ride. Involving hills and rough terrain cross-country biking offers quite the rush.
For mountain bikers everywhere, cross-country is the way to go. It offers you a new assortment of bikes, new areas to bike, and a new twist to mountain biking, as you know it. If you’ve been looking for a mountain biking rush, cross country mountain biking is what you need to be experiencing.
Make sure you look for your next issue soon. We will be talking about some of the differences between disc brakes and rim brakes so you can choose the best option when buying a mountain bike.
10. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Bike Brakes
This can be a very important decision when you are buying a mountain bike. There are actually two answers to the question of disc brakes or rim brakes.
If you want better, more consistent brake performance in all conditions, disc brakes are what you should
be choosing. On the other hand, if you want the lightest set up you can have and you are willing to accept small variances in brake performance, or you want the lowest price possible, rim brakes are
what you should be choosing.
Over the years, mountain bikes have gone through many design changes. They started out with the original cantilever brakes, then went through the U Brake years, and are now with V Brakes. In most
conditions, the V Brakes seem to work well.
In wet or muddy conditions, rim brakes will perform poorly. Over time, they can wear right through the
side of your rim, causing the side of the rim to blow right off.
Disc brakes on the other hand have been around for a long time in cars but weren’t used on bikes much
until the late 1990’s. There were some issues in the earlier models, although the cable actuated or hydraulic brakes of today seem to work quite well.
In terms of performance, disc brakes seem to work better than rim brakes, especially in wet or muddy
areas. Disc brakes normally require less force to apply and aren’t effected by the rim or wheel condition.
Cost is an issue, as disk brake systems tend to be more expensive than rim brakes. Mechanical or cable
actuated brakes are a closer match, although they will still cost more. Hydraulic brakes on the other
hand cost a lot more.
When you make that final choice, weight out the above options then make your decision. Some riders prefer disc brakes, while others prefer rim brakes – making it a matter of opinion.
11. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Wheel Truing
Wheel truing is actually something that is very easy to do. Even if you have no experience with mountain
biking or truing a wheel, you can accomplish it in a few easy steps.
The first thing to do is make sure that none of your spokes are loose. To check, grab each spoke in turn
and try to shake it back and forth. If the spoke wobbles, or makes pinging and grating noises, it’s loose. If it’s loose, add tension to the spoke by turning the spoke counterclockwise with your finger and thumb pressure.
Keep turning and shaking until the noise is gone and the spoke doesn’t wobble or move. Move on to the next spoke until you’ve gone all the way around the wheel and checked them all. Now, it’s time to see just how true the wheel actually is. Turn your bike upside down then spin the wheel to see where it comes closest to rubbing on the brake.
You may need to rotate the wheel backwards then forwards to locate the middle of the bulge on the
wheel. Tighten the spokes, which run on to the other side of the rim. If those spokes are already
tight, you’ll need to loosen a few of the spokes which run to the bulge side of the hub.
Truing a wheel is easier than you may think, although it can be a little tough with some wheels. If you need to loosen spokes, be very careful that you don’t break them. They can be very tough to loosen on older mountain bikes.
When in doubt about how to do this yourself you can find plenty of video tutorials online. You can also check with your local bike shop. They can do it for you and sometime they even offer classes in general bike maintenance.
12. Mountain Biking for Beginners – Biking Vacations
Taking a mountain biking vacation is an excellent way to unwind and explore America. There are several
companies that offer mountain biking tours that go through scenic routes, and they often arrange any
accommodations for travelers as well. For athletic couples, these types of vacations offer the perfect
way to relax and enjoy some exercise together.
For instance, in the United States there are some truly awesome mountain biking trails. It’s not just the major mountain ranges that offer these trails, as any hilly, scenic, rough trail can provide riders with
the adventure they seek. Some of the best areas to mountain bike ride in the United States are the Pacific Northwest, Southwest, and Southeast states such as North Carolina.
Even though the entire American West area is great for a mountain biking vacation, the Southwest area is rapidly becoming a popular area for the sport as well. In the Southwest, some of the best trails include Pinery Canyon Road in Arizona, South Boundary Trail in New Mexico, and Flume Trail in Nevada.
Each and every trail deserves it’s reputation as a tough ride. Each one of these trails is over 20 miles long, with Pinery Canyon being the longest, at over 50 miles! Keep in mind though, just because you
go to a trail it doesn’t mean you have to ride the entire length.
The Pacific Northwest is also a great place for a mountain biking vacation. The three best trails in the entire region are Surveyor’s Ridge in Oregon, Mount Tamalpais in California, and the Methow Trial System in Washington.
A mountain biking vacation is perfect for athletic people who have the desire to explore regions at their own pace. These trips are much less expensive than other trips, yet they can easily be the adventure of a
lifetime.

Easy Online Promotion Tips > 12 Part Primer
1.Easy Online Promotion Tips
If you are an entrepreneur or have a small business that you are actively trying to promote, then there is no doubt that you will be able to capitalize on the many different forms of online advertising available. These methods include search engine optimization, pay per click advertising, online newsletters, and website advertising.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of making your site more easily found by search engines. These search engines send out spiders, which scan your page for content and keywords. They then use this information to rank your website on their result pages. This way when consumers use the search engine to find information about a particular topic, product or service they are presented with relevant options to choose from.
SEO can be challenging. The ultimate goal is to get your webpages listed on the first page of the search engine results. In order to achieve this you must maintain a good balance of keywords in the content of your site. Using the same word too many times can get you excluded from the listings; so don’t stuff your page with the same keyword over and over. It won’t help you in get a high ranking. Instead, put carefully chosen keywords in the title tag of your webpage, in the headings, and in the major paragraphs.
Next we have one of the more popular and successful forms of online promotion. Sending out an email newsletters and promotions. All you need to do is offer to send the visitors to your website a free newsletter each month when they give you their email addresses. This is a great way to promote your business because you are reaching the same person repeatedly.
Every time you send out a newsletter or promotion you are giving the recipient another chance to take advantage of your products and services. The best part is that you can eventually get hundreds or thousands of people to sign up for you newsletter. Just make sure that you are sending them a quality content each that is professionally written. If you’re not a writer, then you can hire someone to perform this task for you.
There is also pay per click advertising (PPC). In case you aren’t familiar with PPC it is an ad service offered by companies like Google Adwords and Facebook. It is a great way to promote your business because you can start seeing results right away. The way they work is simple. The ad-serving network will put your ad on the search results or participating websites that are relevant to your site based on the keywords that you chose to target. Whenever a person clicks on one of your ads, you will have to pay a small fee, usually a few cents or more depending again on the keywords you’re bidding on.
With this method, you don’t have to worry about being charged too much because you set your own monthly budget and once that runs out your ads will stop being shown for the remainder of the month.
The last method we are going to discuss is website advertising. Many content-based websites sell very inexpensive ad space. This can be in the form of banner or contextual ads. When advertising on someone else’s website, do your best to pick a site that is relevant to the product or services you are advertising without being a direct competitor. This way you can get you ad in front of consumers who are interested in what you have to offer.
With this type of advertising you can go directly to the website, you want to advertise on or you can go through and ad severing network similar to Google Adwords. Perform a search for “online advertising networks” and you will find a wide variety of options.
Here are a couple places you can check out to help you get a better understanding of how these networks function.

4. Easy Online Promotion Tips
Achieving maximum return is based on how well you develop your online promotion strategy. It can be extremely difficult to differentiate yourself from the competition when you do business online. For any product or service that you sell, it is likely that there are dozens, hundreds or even thousands of other businesses available who are selling the exact same thing.
To maximize your potential, it is important to use strategies that offer the best options to your customers. You should set yourself apart from the competition; continuously attract new customers and retain current clients.
What products and services do you offer to your clients or customers? It is so important that you offer the highest quality in whatever it is that you are offering. If you cannot stand behind your products and services, it will be unlikely that you will attain your business objectives.
In order to develop your online promotion strategy, you will need to look at exactly what you have to offer and determine first what audience it will appeal to and how you can reach that audience. It’s unlikely they will come to you without you developing a way to make them take notice of your business. You can easily find ways to target your potential clients by identifying them and then looking specifically at ways to utilize the Internet to get the information about your products and services to them.
After you have determined what you have to offer to your potential clients and customers and looked at ways to use the Internet to reach them, you next need to look at ways to differentiate yourself from your competition. If you and five other online stores all offer the exact same product and service, why should they choose to buy from you instead of one of the other businesses?
What, exactly, can you offer to ensure that you are the most valuable choice that they can make? Whether it’s free shipping, enhanced support, superior reputation or any other factor, you need to identify these explicitly to your potential clients.
Finally, you need to continuously attract new customers as well as retaining your current clients in order to remain viable in your business objectives. Although some new clients will probably be reached through word of mouth promotion from your existing clients; you cannot count on this as your only means to build up your clientele.
You need to continuously find new ways to reach additional shares of the marketplace. You may also need to continuously update your products and services in order to continue to appeal to your past clients. If you sell a one-time-use kind of product, look for any products or services that may be related or may enhance your primary offering.
Always remember to go back to your past clients in order to advertise new offerings while showing how valuable they are and reminding them of the value you’ve offered in the past. By diligent work, you can develop your online promotion strategy and enhance your ability to reach your business objectives.
5. Easy Online Promotion Tips
The term SEO floats around the Internet, but exactly what does it stand for? The simple answer: it stands for search engine optimization. Which is not very helpful in laymen terms, so let’s go a bit more in depth.
What we can gather just from the name is that SEO is a process of optimizing a website or page for search engines. Well, we all know what search engines are, but what does it mean to optimize for them?
Used as an online promotion technique it makes a website visible to consumers who use search engines. Whenever someone searches for something on Google, Yahoo or Bing they’re shown several pages of results. If you can get your website listed on the first page of the major search engines it can mean a ton of free promotion for your business.
Typically, most people only click on results found on the first or second page of these results, but sometimes a search can result in 10 or 20 pages and the average user often ignores all those extra pages. That is where employing SEO strategies can help.
Let’s go over a few that you can use:
If you want to achieve good search engine rankings, you must use your keywords and keywords phrases effectively. This include adding them to your content in several places including in the page title.
When you are optimizing your pages keep in mind that the title tag is different from a Meta tag, but it’s important to consider it as a part of your SEO strategy. Whatever text you place in the title tag (between the <title> and </title> portions) will appear in the title bar of browsers when visitors view the page.
The actual text you use in the title tag is one of the most important factors in how a search engine may decide to rank your web page. In addition, all major web crawlers will use the text of your title tag as the text they use for the title of your page in your listings.
If you have designed your website as a series of websites or linked pages and not just a single Home Page, you must bear in mind that each page of your website must be search engine optimized. The title of each page i.e. the keywords you use on that page and the phrases you use in the content will draw traffic to your site.
The unique combination of these words and phrases in the content will draw customers using different search engine terms and techniques, so be sure you capture all the keywords and phrases you need for each product, service or information page.
The most common mistake made by small business owners when they first design their website is to place their business name in every title of every page. Actually, most of your prospective customers do not bother to know the name of your business until after they have looked at your site and decided it is worth book marking.
Therefore, while you want your business name in the title of the home page, it is probably a waste of valuable keywords and space to put it in the title line of every page on your site. Why not consider putting keywords in the title so that your page will display closer to the top of the search engine listing.
Another good tip is to keep the title tag less than 64 characters long and do your best to ensure that the title tag and your meta description are interesting, meaningful, and relevant to your site.
Now I know all of this can sound confusing especially if you are new to promoting online so don’t worry if you don’t know how to edit code and insert title tags and descriptions. It isn’t a hard skill to pick up and if you hired someone else to build your website for you they should have no problem helping you with SEO.
6. Easy Online Promotion Tips
The Internet offers a unique opportunity to market your product or service without investing a lot of money. You might find you need to invest considerable time and effort, but you can’t really expect to succeed at anything without investing time and effort, can you? The uniqueness of the Internet as a way of communicating means you must adapt your marketing strategies to take advantage of its strengths.
The place to start is your website. If you’re trying to market your product or service over the Internet, you no doubt have a website. Once your site has been carefully written to tell people what you do, how you do it, who you are, and why they need what you do, and carefully designed to support that message, it will hopefully start generating some traffic.
Track and analyze that traffic. Most web hosting companies offer traffic analysis data to clients. It is probably your best tool to evaluate the effectiveness of your website’s performance and your marketing techniques.
If you take the time to understand the data, you can start to understand what makes your audience tick. Is one page attracting most of the traffic? Is there one page out of a series of pages where audience members tend to ‘tune out’ and stop clicking? This can be a handy way to figure out what parts of your website need to be spiffed up.
Where does your audience come from? The data can tell you that too. You can find what search terms got them there, what sites they’re coming from, how long they’re staying, etc. All this information updates regularly, so you can assess the effectiveness of any changes you make.
Try to get quality companies who do things that relate to what you do to link to your site. Links generate traffic. Of course, you won’t get many competitors foolish enough to link to you, but whatever you do; there are no doubt companies with good reputations who do something relevant to what you’re doing. Link building is one of the Internet marketing techniques that can dramatically increase your link popularity. Your link popularity is a major part of how your site gets ranked by search engines.
If your site isn’t intended to sell a product or gain a customer, what is it for? Seriously! Think about it. Your online promotion techniques should have a clear purpose, and every page on your site should focus on getting the visitor to take an action. That doesn’t necessarily mean buying something from you immediately. It can be as simple as filling out a form, sending an email, making a phone call, or just moving along to the next step in the process.
Your website shouldn’t just be a billboard announcing that you’re open for business. You want to compel visitors to follow along a specific, well thought out, carefully mapped path that leads to a sale. Your promotions should lead potential customers systematically, into a sales funnel, not attempting to push them into instantly purchasing from you.
7. Easy Online Promotion Tips
If you are going to have a successful online business, then it’s important that you know the basics of market research so that you improve the visibility of your business online. It is common for a person to dive haphazardly into internet marketing programs without knowing their target audience, or even enough about their business.
This is what makes internet market research so important. By conducting this research you are better prepared to know who your target audience is as well as the best methods of reaching them.
Many companies find that the markets they serve are filled with customers, competitors, and continually changing marketing conditions. Meeting the demands of these constantly changing conditions is one of the most difficult aspects of promotion. It’s because of this that market research is so important.
The same promotion techniques that work today are not guaranteed to work in the future. This marketing research can provide information on what the target market is going to look like in the future, and how to prepare for it.
Research is the process of gathering information in order to learn about something. Yes, that is a simple definition of something that is actually quite complicated. For the marketer, research is not simply for the purpose of learning, but is an extremely important ingredient in the decision making process.
Online market research will give you a full picture of both what is occurring and what is about to occur in your chosen marketplace. When it is performed well it can let you know what the best choices are to be made. Marketing decisions are less risky when you have looked at all available options.
There are countless decisions to be made in business that are effected by marketing; these include: target markets, products, distribution, promotion, pricing, external factors, and others. Each of these marketing segments will require research. It is important that you perform the correct research for each of these segments or you will be wasting your time.
Because promotion involves people, it is one of the social sciences. Social science is the study of people and how they react to different situations. In marketing, you study people and how they react to different marketing campaigns. Many marketing research techniques, such as surveys for example, are in actuality scientific experiments.
Not all marketing research will require studies to be performed, but if these studies are not performed correctly then they are producing inaccurate results. Of course, any research, no matter how well performed, has the ability to be wrong.
It’s because of this that you must use several different methods of research in order to get the accurate results. Research reliability depends on making sure that the data gathering leads to accurate results. If you always make sure to conduct the proper Internet market research, you will find that your business will be much more profitable than if you had not.

Essentially a joint venture is two (sometimes more) business owners joining in partnership to increase visibility, sales and profits. This type of partnership offers the people involved several benefits, which makes them a great option for many business people.
Joint venture it a system of marketing that involves forming a partnership for the purpose of each partner making more money. Also known as a strategic alliance, this type of endeavor boosts the assets and resources of each company involved, and both parties realize benefits.
The partnership makes it possible for all parties to add the other’s customers to their own list. This is not link trading or banner trading. Those promotion methods do not utilize the invaluable benefits of good customer relationships and business integrity that are the main elements of successful joint venture partnerships.
The idea of a joint venture is wonderful for those who are attempting to target a certain niche market and there are additional businesses currently doing business with this market successfully. Entering into a joint venture with one of these businesses would make that market available to you quicker and with better results than if you tried to enter the niche without help. It also offers you a chance to become without having to spend a great deal of money.
There are additional good points of joint ventures. You may find yourself gaining immediate credibility through association as a result of your partner’s good reputation. More people will be seeing your advertising, so your sales will increase. You will also be able to offer your customers more merchandise by including that of your partner. You profit from this partnership while increasing your customer’s satisfaction by offering something they previously did not have available.
There are many ways that joint ventures are beneficial. You both get free advertising, access to an established customer list, increased credibility and access to more merchandise to offer to your customers, which will benefit both you and your partner.

A mobile marketing campaign is a great way to reach a large amount of people with very little money or time invested. Most people own some type of mobile device, whether it’s a cell phones or tablet.
If you can integrate your mobile marketing with your other promotional strategies, you can really boost your results. It will make it possible to present a consistent brand message to consumers across multiple platforms. It will also allow your customers to perform the same activities via multiple channels make your business accessible to them from anywhere at any time which can increase the consumer interactions substantially.
The simple fact is that one form of communication isn’t enough for today’s audience. Each style of communication has its own set of pros and cons. Which is why it is best to use more than one. That way when you launch a new campaign you can connect with consumers in multiple ways at the same time. For instance, you could send a direct email in conjunction with a social media post and a text message.
– Have a goal
Don’t start a mobile marketing campaign until you know exactly why you want to have one. You may want to have extra revenue or draw in more readers, but whatever the reason, you need to track the information you receive to find out if your program is really successful.
– Accept feedback
Some mobile marketers have outgoing only messaging, meaning that a customer cannot text them back without going through a lot of hassle. Let your customers talk back to you to improve the focus of your plan, and know if you may need to do something differently.
– Develop an app
Apps are programs for mobile devices that interact with customers in many different ways. They provide easy access to your business through the program the customer installs on their phone. Make your app useful and appropriate to attract the most attention and downloads from your current and potential customers.
– Customer appreciation
Make sure your customers know their business is appreciated. Give them special offers, discounts based on hallmark goals or even a simple thank you note. They need to know you value their business or they may take it to someone who will go that extra step.
– Keep it clean
Keep your material clean in order to keep your brand clean. Sending out raw, unfiltered material, even if you think it’s worthy of attention, can be detrimental to your mobile marketing efforts. Things don’t have to be outlandish to draw attention. They just have to be worthy of someone’s time.
– Make it special
If you often have great sales or giveaways, consider using SMS to get the word out. Text messages shine in their ability to cut through the clutter of an otherwise busy, application-filled mobile device. The messages usually trigger a pop-up notification on the system, making SMS a terrific choice for getting the word out about a sale that can’t be missed. But be careful to only text message customers who have signed up to receive them, as many people feel SMS mobile marketing is invasive. It could have the opposite effect than your intent.
You should expect mobile marketing to grow since the use of mobile platforms keeps increasing. Within the next few years, most people will own a smartphone. The best way to take advantage of this trend is with a solid mobile marketing strategy. It will help you stay ahead of your competition and put you in the perfect position to effectively promote your business, products and services to tech savvy customers.
10. Easy Online Promotion Tips
Social media promotion can be a very daunting task, especially if you are new to the process. Knowing what to do and not to do is the key to your success in this area. The techniques we are going to discuss in this issue will help you to maximize the results you see from your social media campaigns.
Take the initiative to follow your customers and reach out to them away from social media. If your customers have a blog and are posting about your company, engage with them and interact on their blog. Link to their content on your social media pages and this will encourage more people to follow you from the bloggers fan base.
Keeping track of comments, reviews, and blogs related to your business is an important part of social media marketing. There are many tools that you can take advantage of to alert you when new content about your business is posted. Keeping track of what others, particularly past customers, are saying about you is a great way to identify areas where your business could use improvement. It is also a good way to see which parts of your business have been effective.
Your headline is crucial to a good post. Most social networks encourage you to keep your posts short, and if you were to post a long article, chances are no one would take the time to read it. Try posting a link to your article with a good headline that both grabs your readers’ attention and explain what the article is about.
Make sure all of your posts and articles have social share buttons or links. This button makes it easy for your readers to like and share your content. Most people won’t take the time to share your content if they have to go through copying and pasting a link.
Add a link to your Facebook page or Twitter Bio. Also, add a ‘like’ button to your Facebook feed and a ‘follow’ button on your Twitter feed on your blog or website. You can easily find HTML codes for these in the settings of your Facebook/Twitter profile. This will allow your visitors to ‘like’ or ‘follow’ your page and subscribe to your posts without having to look you up.
Don’t neglect LinkedIn or Google+. While they may be less popular than Facebook and Twitter, you can find extremely influential users on these networks. You should also add their social share buttons to you website and in any articles, posts or promotions you publish. It will help you cast a wider net, attract more followers and increase the odds that others will share your content.

Marketing is one way for us to build our business into something respectable. Using video marketing is a great way to promote any business. People love videos and they make your website more interactive so it’s important to use them if you can.
When using video marketing, it’s important that you realize that your viewers likely have short attention spans. Therefore, you don’t have long to hook them. The first 10 to 15 seconds of each video should be the strongest. This is where a special point-of-view or teaser can help entice them to watch the whole video.
Content is King, even in video! If it’s not fun to watch or providing great information, why would anyone watch it? When it comes to video promotion, it’s very important to come up with content that people actually search for and take the time to watch.
Encourage your viewers to comment on your video and share it with friends. The more buzz your video generates, even if it is slanted negatively, it can be very advantageous. Sharing the video helps spread your message to other people with no effort on your part, and people are more likely to view something sent from a friend.
In your video marketing, let the viewer know why it is that you offer the product or service that you do. They can easily see what you offer, but let them know the reason behind it. Open, authentic and candid communication engenders trust, which engages new audience and retains previous buyers.
Pay attention to the analytic charts regarding your videos. You can see things like how many video views you have, when it is viewed and where the traffic comes from. These findings will give you more information on your niche and help you improve your campaign.
Never, never, never try to sell your viewers something in your video. Instead, offer your visitors something worthwhile such as a demonstration of how to do something or how to use a product. By offering relevant information, your visitors are more apt to visit your website, which could in turn result in a sale.
The right way to video market your company has been laid out before you, so you should now be prepared to get down to business. Using the ideas, which now swirl in your head, draft a campaign that you believe will work and follow through with it until you reach your goals.
12. Easy Online Promotion Tips
Every business owner knows that the key to a successful marketing campaign is leads. Without leads your campaign will fail and you end up losing a big chunk of your marketing budget.
As I have mentioned before there are many PPC search engines available including Google Adwords, Yahoo Search and Bing Ads, which are three of the most popular places to start. Each one of these ad platforms operate on the same basic premise. They display your ads on relevant websites and you pay them every time someone clicks on your ad. While they are all similar, they each have their own guidelines to follow.
It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations before you begin your campaign. The all provide extensive help files and tutorials that you can use to help further your education. You can check them out by visiting the links below.
Google Adwords:
https://www.google.com/adwords
Yahoo Search:
https://advertising.yahoo.com
Bing Ads:
http://advertise.bingads.microsoft.com/en-us/sign-up
To understand how pay per click works, let’s pretend that you have a website about collectible toys. You’ve written a great guide all about collectible toys and you sell it from your website. Maybe you also sell some rare pieces.
You want targeted traffic to come to your website. In this case, it would be people who have searched for collectible toys online. They are already interested in the topic of your website. That’s makes them targeted traffic.
The best keyword to use for your pay per click campaign would be collectible toys. But there’s a pretty good chance that other people might want that same keyword. So you would have to bid on it, and the highest bidder gets to use it.
If your website was especially designed for people who want to learn to make money with collectible toy’s, your phrase could be more specific aimed just at them. This keyword might bring you better-targeted traffic and have less competition.
Once you have your keywords and you decide how much you want to spend per day on your PPC campaign, then the company will display an ad that links to your website. If you won the keyword collectible toy’s, then when someone searches on that phrase your ad will be displayed on the search page.
Also, if there are websites dealing with collectibles, toy’s, and other related keywords that have joined the network, your ad may display on those sites so that their visitors might click through.
Your ad will be displayed until the purchased number of clicks have occurred, then it won’t display again until the next day. If you’re getting 100 clicks for $5, and you’ve set your budget for $5 per day, then even if you get 100 clicks in 20 minutes the ad won’t display again until the next day.
Because you can plan your campaign like this, based on a budget per day, PPC is an excellent way to market your business, products or services. It’s best to start out slow with a small budget of around $5 per day. Let it run for few days. If at the end of that time you’re not making sales out of all those clicks, then you know you need to adjust your ad copy.
It might be that your ad copy needs changed, or your landing page needs tweaked or it could just be that the keyword you chose isn’t hitting the right market. All of these things can be adjusted through careful testing, tracking and campaign management.

1. Easy Blogging Tips
In order to attract enough traffic to see any real results, you have to come up with a long-term plan that will not only bring in traffic but also ensure that it’s a consistent and continuous flow of targeted visitors.
The first method we are going to discuss is social networking which is extremely popular right now. This method includes the integration of both the social media and social bookmarking sites. To benefit from social media, it’s a good idea to have accounts dedicated to your blog on the top social networks like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.
The reason why this is so important is that, you can easily share your blog posts on these accounts and if your followers like the content, they may end up sharing and recommending them to their friends and followers. This helps spread your content and increase the amount of traffic your blog receives. The same applies to the social bookmarking sites like Digg, Reddit and StumbleUpon.
To help expand on this method you can take part in discussion forums, respond to all of your readers’ comments, and always include a link to your blog in your email signature,
posts and responses.
The next strategy we are going to discuss is the importance of posting high quality and relevant content. The main reason why people visit your blog is for the content so when it comes to having a successful and profitable blog content is everything.
The trick is to make it captivating enough so that your visitors want to keep reading and coming back for more. When you are creating content it’s important to focus on writing headlines that grab the attention of your visitors so they want to know more and then follow it up with quality content that delivers exactly what the headline promised.
Also, make sure that the content is easy to read; up to date and that, you are posting regularly. This will help keep your visitors engaged and also have SEO (search engine optimization) benefits. As you are creating your content it is a good idea to think about the keywords and phrases you want to target and weave them into your headlines and content where appropriate. Just don’t go overboard. You don’t want to sacrifice the quality of your content for just for the sake of more keyword usage.
Another tip, when including pictures, name them properly (with keywords in mind) so that, when someone is searching for images, yours will show up in the listings hopefully at the top.
The last strategy we are going to discuss in this lesson is often ignored by bloggers but it has the ability to drive large amounts of traffic to your blog when used correctly. You may be surprised to know that you can get a lot of online visitors by promoting your blog through offline advertising. This technique involves including an easy to remember link to your blog on business cards, flyers and pamphlets. It can also include posting ads in your local newspaper, trade journals and magazines that your target audience would be likely to read.
If you want to get fancy, you can purchase some airtime on your favorite radio station, which isn’t as expensive as you may think. In fact, if you can entice them to interview you about your business you can get a ton of free exposure. One of the best ways to score interviews is by writing and submitting press releases. Just make sure they are news worthy and enticing.
Telling your friends, family and colleagues about your blog is always a good idea. You can also taking part in blogging conferences, networking events and if you can swing it opt to be a sponsor, which will get you and your blog even more attention. While these offline techniques may seem a little old-fashioned they still work and have the potential to bring in a lot of visitors that may not have found you otherwise.
2. Easy Blogging Tips

However, it can be a time consuming and often-daunting task, which is why there are so many abandoned blogs floating around the internet.
If you want your blog to be popular and profitable you have to plan ahead and a great place to start is by setting up a blog calendar or schedule for writing and posting to your blog. This will help keep you on track as you write and help eliminate distractions.
As you create your schedule, make sure that it is conducive to your personal routines and preferences. Otherwise, it will be too hard to follow. For instance if you prefer writing early in the morning make sure your schedule reflects that. The idea is to choose a time when you are most likely to be creative.

Turn the ringer off on your phone and shut down you email, close Skype and any other interruptive applications before you start. Only open the tabs you will be using for your research and close all the others to avoid wasting time. You need to be focused when writing to avoid wasting your time and to allow your creative juices to flow.

I know it seems crazy but it can and will help you avoid wasting time, because you can write your blog post without pausing to make corrections or to edit. Finish the entire post and then go back to correct the grammar and spelling mistakes. Doing this will help you to write faster as you will not be worried about the mistakes.

If you take the time to write down the main points of your post, before you begin writing, you will be able to complete the task much faster by simply filling in the details. You should also break your post up into readable chunks by incorporating and attractive heading and subheadings.
Once you are done writing your blog, turn on the spell checker and go through your work correcting all the grammar and spelling mistakes. Read the post and edit it as necessary to ensure that the ideas flow and that the blog post is flawless. By using these simple tricks not only will you be able to write faster it will help ensure you are able to stick to your schedule and write great blog posts that will bring in more visitors for your blog.
3. Easy Blogging Tips
Turning your blog into a big success doesn’t happen overnight. When you’re building your blog following, it’s important to develop relationships with others who have similar interests. A good blog needs external interaction. Unfortunately, many bloggers don’t understand the importance of this type of networking and consequently, they end up missing big opportunities.
One of the best ways to start developing relationships with other bloggers is by commenting on their posts. However, you have to be smart about it. Avoid posting nondescript comments like ‘great post’ and moving on. If you have genuine interest in the topic, take a moment to share your exact thoughts. You want to expand the conversation by being helpful. This way the blog owner and their followers will recognize you as someone they want to get to know.
The same holds true for people who take the time comment on your blog. Don’t ignore legitimate comments instead respond with meaningful replies that will are relevant and inspiring. You also want to follow other bloggers who are popular in you niche. Especially the ones who have chosen to follow you.
Whenever you find a blogger with good content, you can include a link within your post. Whether they have similar or differing views or products, you can create a relationship with them and learn a few things from them. It is a good strategy to get people talking. You can also share blogs on your social network pages.
Guest posts are another great opportunity for getting more recognition. Many blogs welcome submissions; you just have to look for them. Just make sure that you don’t submit a post on an unrelated topic to a popular blogger and expect to have it considered.
Try to share something of interest to the people that already follow the blog and it will work in your favor. You can also allow guests to share posts with you. It’s a great way to add additional content to your blog without doing the work yourself.
4. Easy Blogging Tips
You need some simple ways you can speed up your blog because nothing drives visitors away faster than slow loading pages which makes this a very critical step for getting more traffic, views and profits.
Did you know that web pages that load quickly are normally ranked higher in the search engine results compared to the web pages that load slowly? It’s true!
Google and search engines usually use the blog’s page load speed when searching algorithms. This is based on the fact that a page loading fast gives better user experience compared to a slower loading page.
The best place to start is by testing and monitoring your blog’s page speed so you will know where and when problems arise. You can do this with free tools like the one at Pingdom: http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ or by using Google’s Page Speed Insights: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
These two tools help identify any processes that are running slowly on the blog. All you have to do is type in your blog URL and they will provide you with a full report of what is working and what is not.
Keep in mind that a blogs load speed can only be as fast as the web server (hosting) you’re using. Most hosting companies post this information on their websites however if you aren’t sure of the speed capabilities the contact the host’s support team and ask what the server speed is. Know this information will help you make sure that your blog has adequate bandwidth that can handle the peak traffic times.
Take time to optimize your images. You should always resize the images to the size you want in your published page or blog post before uploading them to the blog. This is because large images are normally a resource drain and can take up valuable space in the hosting account and will slow down the blog load speed. Make sure that the images you will see on the blog have been saved in PNG or JPEG format.
Delete unnecessary CSS, java script and HTML Code. Too much code can drag down load speeds so if it isn’t needed get rid of it. If you aren’t sure how to do this contact your web designer or hire someone who understands coding.
Warning: Don’t delete anything without having a backup copy of your blog.
Lastly, make sure that the blogging application you are using is up to date. This includes the plugins and theme too. Running on an out of date platform can cause conflicts, slow down load times and it can leave your blog open to hackers who want to wreak havoc on your business.
5. Easy Blogging Tips

Easy Home Beer Brewing > 12 Part Home Brewing Primer
1. Easy Home Brewing
Can you remember the first got the idea in your head to take up brewing your own beer at home?
For many it is a tour of a brewpub or some other behind the scenes exposure to all that happens when good beer is made. Before that one pivotal moment, you may have never even thought about beer being made at all.
The origin of beer was the liquor store or the market and that was that. But when you realized that not only does beer go through a fascinating transformation from grains, hops and malts to this delicious brew you enjoy but that you can make your own beer if you want to, that is when the idea of becoming a home brewer started to become a reality in your mind.
For others that moment of realization that home brewing could be a whole new world might have happened when you were first exposed to “real” beer, as the home brewing enthusiasts call it. That is when you sampled a brew that was not made by one of the big retail beer makers like Budweiser, Coors or Miller and you discovered what beer tasted like when it came directly from the brewing process to your glass.
That might also have been the day that you found out what an amazing diversity of beer types, textures and flavors there were. For many when they realize that you can find a diversity of beers that is almost as extensive as in the wine world that it is often very difficult to go back to boring old pasteurized beer again.
If you are about to “make the leap” to become a home brewer yourself, you are about to step into a rich and full world that is filled with history, culture, tradition and new friends and associates. You won’t just take up the hobby of brewing beer; you will “become” a home brewer, which is a unique kind of individual indeed.
Did you know that it is entirely possible for you to make high quality beer right in your own home? All it takes is a small investment in equipment, a few base ingredients and the patience that it will take to learn the process. The method is not difficult which explains why home brewing is a passion and hobby that is growing in popularity more and more every year.
You might be surprised whom you know has a love of brewing beer because it’s not just the hard-core beer drinker you may know. Since brewing beer at home is about the art and the craft of making a quality beverage, home brewers come from every walk of life there is from bartenders to ministers and from college professors to librarians.
Home brewing is fun and exciting way of creating your own batch of delicious beer. However, what transforms home brewing hobbyists to life long makers of beer is the challenge of always finding new blends, methods ways to make their beer even more flavorful than the last batch.
Be forewarned that a zeal for becoming better at home brewing can be habit forming. If you get hooked, you will meet thousands of others in your town, around the country and the world who have the same addiction as you.
It’s a wonderful addiction that you will never regret catching because brewing beer at home can provide decades of fun and enjoyment while making your own blends. Nonetheless it provides something else just as good, which is really great tasting beer.
2. Easy Home Brewing
There are a lot of people who have taken the plunge to start making their own beer from scratch at home. However the odds are that just as many people are curious about brewing beer at home but are pushed away by the challenge of buying all of the stuff and figuring out how to do it and then the problem of the mess and the storage of equipment and beer in different phases of fermentation and completion.
For many, what is needed is an easy way to give home brewing a shot without having to go to all the effort of buying a complete set up of equipment, all of the ingredients, the bottles and storage just to find out if you like it. What is not generally known is that there is such a fast track way to making beer at home. By buying a simple device called a beer-making machine, you can easily make a batch of beer right in the home
The good thing about a beer making machine is that it is basically a plug and go situation. This takes a lot of the intimidation out of buying many individual units of equipment and going through each step of brewing and fermentation. The brewing machine goes a long way to take over the preparation so you can do all the steps using its resources. When you buy the machine, it comes with the ingredients and instructions.
The entire design of a brewing machine is based on the idea of reducing the mess and fuss of making beer. A first time home brewer needs to have some of the joy of making their own brew but not as much of the work and the worry. You certainly don’t have to be a beer-making guru to use these user-friendly machines because the instructions are clear and written in an understandable way and the ingredients come measured and ready to go.
As with any ready made solution for discovering something as great as home brewing your own beer, there are pluses and minuses to breaking yourself in on a beer making machine. One of the biggest pluses is they are a one-time use machine that you can use and throw away. This gets the problems of cleaning and sanitation out of the loop entirely. All of the ingredients are prepared and ready to add in premeasured amounts so the fuss and worry is removed as well. It is just about as user friendly as you can make home brewing be.
The down side of using a beer-making machine to break into the craft of home brewing is that because it is completely set up when you buy it as a kit, you don’t get the chance to play with the ingredients and enjoy the creativity and experimentation that is a big part of why beer making is so fun. You go through the steps and make one good batch of beer. However, you don’t have the chance to make it a great batch of beer because you cannot make changes to the ingredients as you go.
Also a beer-making machine is sold to make one and only one batch of beer and then you, in theory, are to throw it away. This may seem like a big waste and you might try to clean it up to use it again, but the real idea of the product is as a starter experience. It really isn’t the kind of thing intended for you to buy a new kit every month and continue making that same kind of beer each time.
Keep the perspective that it is not really designed to be your total and final solution for making beer. By breaking into home brewing with the beer-making machine, you get some of the experience of making and fermenting your own beer and then bottling it to serve a few weeks later as a genuine product of your little at home brewery. The fun of that may be a great way for you to start making beer and then grow into a hobby that may last a lifetime.

Whenever you start a new hobby, its best to take a few minutes and think about what you are getting into. A lot of new hobbies require a significant investment of time and money. This is certainly true of golf, skydiving, scuba and home brewing.
So along with a plan on how to get started, it’s good to have a good plan for getting ready to plunge into home brewing full scale. If you have a road map for “checking it out”, you can determine if home brewing will fit into your lifestyle and your budget.
“Looking before you leap” means that you find out what it means to be involved in the hobby or sport as a full time member of that hobby community. When it comes to home brewing, that will only happen when you too can make your own beer at home. When that time finally comes, you can play with the recipes and make the taste of your own beer very unique. However, a mature approach to this very adult hobby means checking it out and knowing the investment of time, money and space in the home before you spend your first dollar to get set up as a home brewer.
An easy and fun way to ease into the hobby of home brewing that doesn’t cost a cent is to begin to network with those who are already well into their passion for making beer. You can find forums online to learn more about getting started. There are certainly a number of home brewing societies and clubs in town that you can find out about online or through your local retail brewing supply store.
These social connections will be people who are very much “evangelists” for home brewing because they know the fun of it. You will get plenty of chances to sit in with a new friend to step through the brewing process and not only learn what equipment you will need but how it is used as you get training from an “old pro” in home beer making.
Once you have gotten some basic training from home brewing gurus, the time will come when you are ready to consider buying your own equipment and taking a stab at it yourself. However, you have already witnessed that home brewing in the house is a big event. From filling up the kitchen, to refrigerating, to making a mess sometimes and requiring places to store, refrigerate and ferment the beer in the various stages from ingredients to finished product.
Home brewing doesn’t have to be a solitary activity. Why not get your friends and family involved? If they can attend meetings at the home brewing club or go to competitions or other events that are all about home brewing, they can catch the same enthusiasm you have.
That enthusiasm will be very important particularly in your significant other because each brewing session will be a major event in the house involving the kitchen with lots of pans, bottles and equipment. Having your wife or husband fully onboard with the process and even working on it together makes the fun of home brewing even more fulfilling.
Another area of looking before you leap is to plan out not only how you will use all of the equipment you will buy but also how you will handle issues of storage. It’s a very pragmatic concern if you bring in this arsenal of beer making equipment. While you will enjoy that equipment a great deal, you don’t want it to dominate your home.
By getting a feel for the equipment when you are preparing to start your home brewing hobby, you can prepare a storage space for the equipment when it is not in use. Think ahead about storage for the fermentation phase of brewing as well as storing up to five gallons of beer per finished batch.
By thinking ahead, when you become a very active home brewer, you will have your family and facilities all ready for the changes. That is looking before you leap into the exciting world of making and enjoying your own homemade beer.
4. Easy Home Brewing
To become a real “master” of brewing beer, you have to understand every aspect of what happens during the brewing process. When you get home from the beer brewing supply store with your kit or your supplies to make a fresh batch of beer, it is sometimes hard to imagine that those raw materials will result in a delicious batch of beer that you made yourself. By understanding each step, you can become quite adept at making beer at home.
Each step of making beer in order is important. From sterilizing your equipment, to purchasing the supplies and then on to boiling, brewing and fermentation. That last step, fermentation and aging is unique from the rest because it calls for you not to interact with your beer. That means no adjusting the equipment or formulating the ingredients.
This step calls for you to use patience to leave your beer alone as it ferments. The fermentation process is just as crucial if not more important than any of the preparation steps. That is because it is fermentation that genuinely turns the mixture you have cooked up into a wonderful tasting beer you will be proud to serve.
There are two phases of fermentation, which are the primary stage and the secondary stage. Both are important. During primary fermentation, the yeast and the sugars that are in the wort you prepared go through a long chemical interaction that releases carbon dioxide as a byproduct. Now during this phase, you want to get that CO2 out of those fermentation bottles because if you leave them in there, the bottles will explode.
The need to get that carbon dioxide out of the fermentation bottle without opening up the fermentation to outside air entirely is one good reason to buy specialized fermentation equipment because they will come with air release devices that will utilize an airlock system to release the CO2 buildup but keep a level of separation between the outside environment and your fermenting beer.
Once you have the bottles prepared and the wort in place, its time to find a cool dark place in the house to place the fermenting bottles. Don’t give in to the urge to put them in the refrigerator because that will just stop the fermentation in its tracks. A room that sustains a constant 65-75 degree temperature is good.
Now that the fermentation process is underway, you do what is often the most difficult maneuver for any home beer zealot. You leave the beer alone and let the ingredients make magic in those bottles for about two weeks.
Secondary fermentation is the next and final phase, unless you choose to age your beer to enhance the flavor. The second fermentation is where you add some additional sugar and you strain out the sediments from the primary fermentation and trap the mixture in sealed bottles.
The CO2 build up is not as extreme so the danger of exploding beer bottles is gone. The carbon dioxide creates that bubbly attribute to your beer that will give it a wonderful head and taste.
Both phases are necessary and you will give your beer another couple of weeks in this stage before it will be ready to drink. After you have a little taste, if you want to let the beer continue to process and age, maybe even in wood containers to add a rich flavor to the brew, this is just you being the Brewmeister that will result in wonderful tasting beer to serve to your friends and family.

One of the great reasons for learning to brew your own beer is to learn more about the various grains and ingredients that makes one beer better than another one. When you first start your hobby of home brewing, you no doubt got connected to a local club or association of home brewers. They can help you learn the lingo and how to tell what the best grains are to use in your beer. Before you go to the first meeting, it might speed things up if you knew the basics.
The use of malts is at the heart of how grain contributes to a great beer. The difference between a light beer that doesn’t have a heavy malt taste and one that virtually tastes like a loaf of bread all go back to what malts you pick and the process that is used during the malting and brewing of your beer. There are a big variety of different grains that people commonly use when brewing their own beer and you may have to take some time to brew up a few batches using different grains to see which ones capture what to you is the perfect beer taste. Understanding how malting works is a good first step.
Now as a home brewing enthusiast, you will probably not actually take grain through the malting process yourself. You should become familiar with how malting works and why there is so much variety to the outcome of the process. This way you can use that knowledge when buying the malts for your beer so you can get one that will give you the flavor, color and intensity of beer that you are looking for.
The malting process starts with the grain to be used. The most common grains are barley, wheat or rye but others can be used. The grain is used from the seed form and steeped and germinated which gets the active part of the malting and brewing process underway. Germination is what happens when a seed sprouts out to become a plant, releases the stored energy of the seed that was put there to jump-start the growth process. We are going to use that energy and convert it into malt mash that you can use to brew your beer.
What happens during the germination process of those grains is that the stored energy in the seed is changed as it is released. When the starches in the seeds changes into sugars by the enzymes that are active part of the germination process, those sugars give us one of the core ingredients for great beer. It’s at that exact moment that the germination process is suspended using kilns to dry the grains and all of that good sugar and enzymes that became active remain in the malt for use during the brewing process.
Obviously this description of the basic malting process is simplified but for our purposes it gives you a background into what happens before you buy the malts you will use in your home made beer. Based on this description, you can go on to get a feel for the wide variety of malt types. The more you know about malt, the better informed you will be about what malts you wish to use when you brew your beer. Those decisions will have a big effect on the taste of your beer. So for great tasting beer, use great malts and knowing one malt from the next is the key to knowing which to use for the best home made beer possible.

Beer is about more than just a great tasting beverage. The fact that a culture has grown up around the joy of making and enjoying fine beer testifies how much it has become a part of how our culture works.
The drinking of the beverage is only partially about the taste of the brew itself and very much about where you have your beer, what you drink it out of, how the beer looks in the glass and who you are drinking it with.
While you as a home-brewer cannot control many of those factors, you can control the quality and ambiance of the beer you make so it not only tastes great but is visually appealing as well.
If you pour a commercial beer from a bottle or can, you may not be aware of how much those beer makers put into not just the taste but also the affect of what other senses have on the beer drinking experience. The way the beer pours, the aroma as you pour it, the head that wells up in your mug and how the beer looks in the glass all are just as important as the taste itself.
The emphasis the big beer producers put on ascetics is so extreme that they even make the sound the can makes when you “pop a cold one” to be unique because they know that sound alone can prepare you to receive the taste of a great beer drinking experience.
The truth is none of that will change whether the beer itself is of high quality or is good to drink, but visual appeal matters. One area of visual appeal that you have some control over when making your own beer at home is clarity. Clarity simply refers to how the beer looks in the glass. If you can see through the beer and it is a consistent beige or amber color, that is visually appealing.
If things are floating around in the beer, even if they are perfectly harmless byproducts of the brewing process, that can diminish how inviting your beer is to enjoy and even diminish how enjoyable the beer is to drink even if the beer itself is of high quality.
A lot of the “stuff” that floats around is beer comes from the yeast that is crucial to the fermentation process that makes beer. Some yeasts are better than others about settling out of the beer during fermentation. Another source of visible material in the beer comes from what is referred to as non-microbiological particles or NMPs, which are a byproduct of the brewing process.
Again, none of these visible materials are harmful to consume nor do they reduce the value of the beer. They just look bad and hurt the clarity of the beer, which is one-way beer, is measured for quality.
Many of the NMPs are introduced during the initial creation of the wort, which is phase one of any brewing operation. The wort is boiled at a high temperature for a significant period of time to cause the proteins in the ingredients to break down and become part of the fluidity of the wort rather than remain in a substance state or a “floc” which remains visible in the finished product. To avoid this, make sure your boil sustains a temperature of 215F for 90 minutes to assure complete processing of the proteins.
Another important brewing step that you can do to reduce visible agents in your beer is to cool the wort very quickly. By bringing the temperature down rapidly, the clarity is vastly enhanced as is the flavor and overall quality of the beer.
The best way to accomplish such rapid cooling is to move the wort quickly from the brewing process to a very cool environment or using a specialized wort cooler to quickly bring that temperature down and eliminate many of the flocs that might be there if the cooling goes more slowly.
Seeking beer clarity can become a major passion of yours as a home brewer and there is a whole science to using clarifying agents such as Irish Moss to enhance beer clarity without diminishing beer quality or taste. Learning good techniques for making your beer clear and appealing is just another step in your ongoing quest to become the best amateur beer brewer possible. That is a quest worth pursuing.
7. Easy Home Brewing
For a beer lover, one of the most enjoyable hobbies you can pick up is to brew your own beer at home. Once you get set up with the equipment and basic supplies, it’s a fairly affordable hobby and you will get a lot of entertainment out of going through the brewing and fermentation process.
Then once you start bringing out your own home brewed beer, you get the sense of pride because this beer made entirely by you, not to mention the enjoyment of sucking down that hearty blend that you created yourself.
One of the hold ups that may have kept you from getting into making your own beer may have the cost issue. If you have ever taken a tour of a brewery and you see the huge machines and storage tanks, it’s hard to see how you can do that in your kitchen with just a few simple devices.
However, there is an entire home brewing subculture that is based entirely on being able to make beer yourself without spending a fortune. Its legal, its fun and brewing beer can become a lifelong hobby.
With all of that said, it’s true that the initial costs can be pretty intimidating. The cost of the pots, fermenters and other specialized equipment can run into several hundred dollars.
It’s risky to sink that kind of money into a new hobby before you even know if you will enjoy making beer, whether the beer you make will be drinkable or if you will stick with it. During a time when we need most of what we earn just to get by, that is a risk that may be holding you back from getting into the hobby of home brewing.
Of course one natural solution is to get your first exposure and training in making beer with someone else’s equipment. Once you start poking around home brewing web sites and places where the equipment and supplies to make beer are sold in town, you can find out about clubs and societies that are full of people who are making beer all the time right at home like you want to do.
These people not only love home brewing, but they can become real evangelists for their hobby and with very little encouragement! You can enjoy some Saturdays in their shop or kitchen learning how to brew beer with someone that already knows how. This kind of experience is priceless because you learn what to look for in equipment and what is essential and what is optional.
You can go through the brewing process and learn a lot about how to make actual beer that is drinkable and what pitfalls to avoid. Meanwhile, you may not have spent any more money than to buy your new friend lunch or to bring the pretzels for the tasting party when the beer is done.
When you are ready to get started, your knowledge of what you really need will pay off big time. You still don’t have to pay top dollar for the equipment to get up and running. Many people get started with making beer and for many reasons, their hobby stops suddenly. The outcome is that there is a pretty brisk used home brewing equipment market out there.
You can find discounted equipment in new or like new condition out on eBay or Craigslist all the time. Don’t overlook the local sources as those home brewer clubs and associations may have bulletin boards with listings of people who want to sell their equipment. Pawnshops in the area are another great resource.
Another great way to save money is to go together with a friend and buy the equipment together and split the costs all the way down the line. This makes brewing beer more fun and social and each of you can have the equipment and supplies home at different times to get to know it and learn to make good beer separately so you can make great beer together.
Who knows, you may get so good at it that you start selling your beer to local pubs. Plus, when the big bucks come rolling in from that, your investment in learning to brew beer will really look good to you.
8. Easy Home Brewing
As we have discussed before, often the urge to take the plunge into home brewing comes when you visit a brewpub and pay ten dollars for an imported beer that was brewed in house.
Even if that beer is good, it’s easy to start to suspect that you could do as well making beer and that your beer would be perfectly fresh and would cost a lot less than ten dollars a glass to enjoy this flavor all the time. When that thought crossed your mind, the home brewer in you is born.
The community of beer lovers is very large as documented in the huge beer sales that stay consistent around the world. That is why it is almost a shame and a crime when beer is mass produced and bad beer is sold so widely. It’s a crime because it is so easy to make really good beer. If you have that desire to enjoy the finest of this ancient recipe, you will find that getting started on this great hobby is far easier than you may have thought.
While you will have to learn a few things about the process of making beer, it will be more fun than any class you took in high school for sure because you are learning to make something you love and you get to drink your final exam!
Unlike school though, once you get down the basic process of home brewing, the variety of “right answers” on how to make a great beer are diverse and fun to play with. You can try different grains, hops and yeast combinations.
You can also adjust when each ingredient is added and learn how to balance the bitter flavor with the hops flavor to give you a deep rich blend or a light beer and all using the same equipment and much the same ingredients. So with that enticement to the fun and endless variety you can find in home brewing, it’s just a matter of getting started.
It’s very easy to fall under the influence of “beer purists” who will advocate very expensive and complicated equipment and using exotic ingredients to make a beer of very high quality and taste. If you make it a practice to socialize at the home brewing retailer or at home brewing clubs or web sites, it’s easy to pick up that side of the community that is very particular and advanced in the craft of home brewing.
However, it is important to remember that just starting out that you are not a home brewing purist yet! It’s best not to try to be one because starting out, its best to let others help you get some very basic equipment so you can learn the craft of home brewing and develop your skills easily and without so much pressure.
If you spend thousands on very elaborate and hard to operate equipment too soon, you will be frustrated and if the outcome is not just right, you will be disappointed. So cut yourself some slack and buy just the basics and just learn to make a very down to earth starter batch of beer. You have all the time in the world to learn your craft and grow until you can afford to be a “beer purist” and be fussy and particular too.
So don’t be ashamed to buy a basic beer making kit at the beer retailer store or online to get you started. These kits come with all you need in equipment and supplies to step through making your first few batches of beer. It’s important you give yourself the time to use these starter kits to learn your basic skills.
Then once you have the basics, it will be great fun to buy different types of grains, hops, and yeasts then experiment to refine your skills. That is a natural way to learn and a way to become a long-time beer making enthusiasts and enjoy this wonderful hobby for many years to come.

We tend to think of “malt” as a thing. Of course, there is the candy malt and there is the old fashioned “malted” that was the stable of 1950s “malt shops” which in our mind is more like a modern day milk shake.
However, when it comes to beer, just about anyone, even people who are not involved in home brewing can list the ingredients as hops, malt, and grains. So as part of our quest to become more familiar with all of the aspects of beer making, it’s a good idea to explore more deeply what exactly the malt in beer is all about.
When you hear the word “malt” in regards to the brewing of beer, the reference is actually to malted barley. Malt is the outcome of the process of malting which starts with pure barley grain, the same grain you might use to make muffins or barley soup. That is a good way to ground the concept of malting to something very familiar.
Even then the term “malted barley” is not specific enough. Malting gets right to the heart of how beer is made because the core ingredients of beer is what results when the sugars from malted barley are fermented. Those sugars are scientifically named maltose hence, malt. The malt used to make beer is the outcome of fermenting the sugars from malted barley whereas the candy or desert forms of malt are those sugars themselves, unfermented. However, what makes brewers malt so useful in beers is that there are a wide variety of types of maltose sugars that result from the fermentation. Each of these can be brewed into a very unique beer.
How malt is produced can make for interesting trivia. It gives you insight into how the malts you use in your home brewing come to be. The process of malting barley begins with jump-starting the germination process that is nature’s way of preparing the barley plants to grow from seeds into sprouts.
The barley is soaked and then they are drained fairly soon so the seeds will be stimulated to begin to germinate. The part of the germination process that is interesting to brewers happens when certain enzymes are released by germination.
These enzymes are powerful chemicals that convert the stored sugars and starches in the seeds that will become food to power the germination and growth of the plant. It is those enzymes that the brewer is looking to capture.
The entire objective of malting is to activate those enzymes in the seeds and release them so the brewer can capture them for the brewing process. So as soon as the germination process starts, the grain is quickly dried so the enzymes are captured in that raw state to be processed into malted barley.
Once the brewer has the malted barley in the condition we just went through, that malt is saturated in hot water. This stimulates and activates the enzymes and puts them to work again.
Under the controlled conditions of the brewing process, the enzymes do their job of converting the starches in the barley to sugars. As those sugars go directly from conversion to be boiled with hops and then combined into fermented yeast, the result is this little thing we call beer.
Now this is all good information but most of us who are making beer at the amateur level. For our purposes, malt extract that is sold by your home brewing supplier is a great way to have all of that skilled preparation at your disposal without you having to do all the work.
By buying the malt in extract form, it is ready to go into your boiling water and join the home brewing process in full swing. As you add the malt, those enzymes will kick in and the chemical reactions needed to create great tasting beer will be well underway.
Maybe there will come a time when you will get more involved in the more complicated procedures of brewing or at least visit a brewery where the malting process is underway. Since our love of home brewing is about learning all we can about how beer is made by making it ourselves, getting a feel or the malting process is both educational and fascinating as well.

In any family when one person gets excited about something new, everybody gets in on the act. That is certainly true of children. They love to be active in whatever hobbies mom and dad love to be part of. If you bowl, the kids want to go and play the video games. If you love Shakespeare in the park, the kids will go and play on the ground nearby. So if you can find a way to give the kids a part of what you are doing, that keeps the family together.
That may seem tough with a hobby like home brewing. After all, the process of brewing is pretty involved and there is boiling water and sterile instruments to think of. That kind of thing really isn’t fun for the kids. So if you can find a way to make a “beer” just for them, then they too can enjoy the excitement and feel part of what the adults are doing.
A way to fill this need is to brew up a delicious batch of ginger beer for the kids. The nonalcoholic beverage drinkers in the family will love it too! Of course, ginger beer is not real “beer” in the sense of an alcoholic brew although it can be mixed with beer for delightful and very British toddy. However it’s so easy to make that the kids can get involved and they will love the beverage that results almost as much as mom and dad love their home brewed beer.
It’s a good thing to have the procedures, tools and ingredients for your ginger beer all ready to go on brew day because it’s a great surprise to the kids to let them know that they are going to get to make their own beer too! Since the steps for making ginger beer are fast, easy and harmless, the kiddos can have a ball doing it using a very simple recipe and even if they drink it all gone, it’s easy enough to whip up another batch.
The ingredients for ginger beer are not exotic and they can be found at any grocery store.
They include:
– Be ready with 8 plastic bottles that will hold a pint and 4 bottles that will hold a quart
and some bowls to mix the ginger beer up with.
– Ginger – you can get it fresh at larger grocery stores. Two ounces is enough.
– Cream of tartar – about one teaspoon will do.
– Two lemons sliced.
– A pound of sugar
– An ounce of yeast
– Boil one gallon of water.
Now it’s just a matter of putting it all together. Cut the lemons in big sized rings and combine them in a big bowl with the other ingredients. The only other preparation you need to do besides boiling the water is to crush the ginger so it mixes with the water and other parts of the beer.
Now just chill the mixture to room temperature and add the yeast. Put it in the larger bottles to let it ferment for a couple of days. Once that is done, skim off the residue on top and your ginger tea is ready to enjoy.
12. Easy Home Brewing
When you first learn the craft of home brewing, one of the big steps is the transfer of the beer into larger bottles for fermentation and then smaller bottles for storage as well as to serve your guests a delicious brew. This can be messy but it is an important step along the path to great tasting beer. Learning the beer transfer and bottling skills will be a big step as your sophistication at home brewing comes along.
There comes a time that you can consider the next big step in becoming more skilled in your home brewing talents. That next big step is into kegging your home made brews. However before you make that step, its good to know what you will need and the costs and efforts involved so you can go into the kegging step with eyes wide open.
For one thing, kegging your own beer can get a bit expensive. There is another level of equipment including CO2 storage tanks; the kegging canisters and even a kegerator that can all add another level of cost to your home brewing hobby. Hopefully if you have been making your own beer for a few years before you make this step, you can see that the money you have saved on beverages has been significant enough justify making the next big step into kegging.
The first step perhaps of moving into kegging is to get the family on board, especially your spouse. A natural progression, though, is to start your hobby of home brewing for the fun and the savings and then to go toward brewing when you become a serious home brewing zealot and you know the quality of your beer demands this step. So if your family has evolved and you are a home brewing family, they will be as excited as you are to learn this next step.
Along with the costs, get a good feel for the additional storage space kegging will add to your beer making needs and requirements. Along with the equipment for kegging, you will also need additional refrigerator space.
This might be the time to consider the purchase of a specialized refrigeration unit called a kegerator that is made just for chilling and serving your fine beer from the kegging setting. However, if you entertain a lot and you are getting those rave reviews for the quality of your homemade beer, such a purchase is a slam-dunk decision.
The upside of kegging is that it does reduce much of the fuss and mess of using bottles and always having to clean and make sterile those bottles for the next use. Kegging gives you a lot of control over the levels of carbonation in your beer.
That gives you even more options and freedom to adjust carbonation to use in the creation of unique styles and tastes in your beer. That is just one of many ways kegging improves the over all quality and diverse flavors you can achieve with your homemade beers.
Of course there still will be a place for bottling your beer even if you have overhauled your storage and at home serving method to move to kegging. There is a real fun and pride when you can serve family and guest’s great tasting ice-cold beer directly from a keg like you could get it in the pub.
However, you will want to keep some bottles around to create bottled beer for gifts or to take with you to a social outing. When you show up for that next big barbeque with bottles of your own home made and kegged beer, you will be the hit of the event.
