Is the Snake Diet a Form of Intermittent Fasting? > Diet & Weight Loss

The Snake Diet is not one in which you have a lot of rules to follow. It’s not one where you have to buy a lot of expensive diet foods or eat strange herbs or supplements in order to lose weight.

This diet is a lifestyle change that teaches you how to use fasting in order to achieve your weight loss goals. Most people have fasted at some point. Even if you just skipped a meal for several hours, that was fasting.

Intermittent fasting is based on a method of eating only during specific times while not eating the rest of the time. On an intermittent fasting diet, you don’t get a meal plan to follow.

You just don’t eat during your fasting periods. The Snake Diet follows the same principle. The only difference is that the fasting periods are longer than those of some intermittent fasting diets.

The reason that this diet extends the fasting times is because the body can safely survive on less food for longer periods of time. When you start the diet, you’ll fast for 48 hours, but if you feel okay, you can extend this time.

While you’re fasting, you’ll only be drinking the Snake Juice that you either buy or make. This juice is used to replenish your electrolytes. On intermittent fasting diets, rather than just replenishing your electrolytes, you’re usually allowed to drink things such as water, coffee, zero calorie drinks and diet sodas.

Once you go through the first fast on the Snake Diet, you would refeed during your eating window, then go right back into another fast. The cycle of this diet has you eating only every other day or every 2 days, but some people do go for longer stretches of time.

While fasting, you’re encouraged to test your urine for ketosis. This portion of the diet which is brought on by any fasting diet that a user sticks with helps with weight loss due to the fat burning process.

Unlike intermittent fasting, the Snake Diet teaches three separate phases. The first one is the original fasting time along with drinking the Snake Juice and eating during a one to two hour window.

Phase 2 has users fasting for between two and four days, but only if the person feels good. This phase repeats until the weight loss goal is met. The third phase teaches you to follow a 24-48 fasting routine.

It’s during this step that you’re taught to pay attention to signals from your body indicating hunger for the purpose of refeeding. So while there are some similarities between intermittent fasting diets and the Snake Diet, ultimately, they’re not exactly alike.

Is Coffee Off Limits on the Snake Diet? > Diet & Weight Loss

As with other diets, there are some things that you just should avoid while you’re on the Snake Diet. One of these things is coffee. The reason that you’ll want to cut this beverage from your lifestyle is because coffee is known to cause weight gain with some people.

The reason that it causes weight gain is because it boosts the amount of cortisol your body produces. Cortisol is your body’s stress hormone. The purpose of this hormone is to give you a quick burst of energy.

This is why it’s activated whenever you’re faced with a life-threatening situation. When you get a cortisol boost, it makes you hungry and can send you into an almost frenzy of wanting to eat the kind of food that’s not good for your body.

You’ll want whatever is packed with sugar or salt. This hormone is also catabolic. When you drink coffee, you’re stimulating cortisol, which in turn is hanging onto fat. Whenever you have caffeine in coffee, you might feel alert and like you’re on top of your game, thanks to the quick boost of energy it gives you.

But while you’re feeling good, the cortisol is breaking down your muscle and you can end up losing muscle mass. All of this happens because cortisol is part of your flight or fight response.

When you drink coffee, your cortisol boosts the adrenaline and then your organs – like your liver – get busy starting to crank out sugar. This is all part of your body’s survival mode.

If you were in a life-threatening emergency, this response would be appropriate. But because you’re just drinking coffee, it’s not, and the effects are damaging your body and keeping the weight from leaving.

It doesn’t have to be a lot of coffee that does this to you, either. Having just one cup of coffee can activate the cortisol boost and can cause it to jump. You’d think that after this jump, your cortisol level would drop in an hour or two and then everything would go back to normal.

That’s not true. Once your cortisol level is boosted, it can remain elevated the entire day. This means that when you’re done with work and ready to get some sleep, that coffee cortisol level is still high.

Because it’s high, it can cause you to lose sleep and keep you from hitting the REM stage. The reason that this is a big deal is because it’s during the REM that your body burns calories and fat.

When this state is prohibited, your body skips this step and you lose out. Coffee can sap your strength, make you feel edgy and it’s an addictive substance. That’s why you crave it when you do without.

Envy is a double-bladed sword. It can be good or bad depending on how much envy you’ve got running in your system. It’s good if you can use it to do productive things, like motivating you to try and do something better with your life. But it’s bad if you let it take control – feelings of insecurity and inferiority can literally destroy your happiness. So, practice gratitude and be happy for those who are more successful than you.

5. Gratitude makes you more optimistic

Without feelings of envy, you can clearly see the path you need to take, so you too can succeed. When you make gratitude a habit, you see the silver lining in everything. It makes you more optimistic and gives you a more positive outlook in life!
